Goodbye February 2017

Tuesday, 28 February 2017

Well February is almost over, even though it's only a few days shorter it always seems to fly by. As we enter March it seems like winter has been with us for an eternity, and I for one cannot wait for spring and summer to warm up the days. But regardless of my mumbled annoyances with how grey and dark it's been, February has been a relatively good month.

What I've Been Playing - Feb 2017

This month I've had quite a bit of time to play games, so I've been trying to complete games that have been clogging up my backlog. I have a large stockpile of games that I've been trying to work through but it just keeps growing and growing. Since I'll be moving in a few months it will probably be best if I don't buy any new games to save a bit of money, that's another benefit of catching up on older games. So this has been my month in games.

Simple Complexity in Hitman GO

When it comes to smartphone games we tend to hold them to a lower set of standards then we would a full console game. I think this mainly comes from the misconception that something like Candy Crush is all we can expect from the platform. Yes, there is a deluge of simple puzzle games that will happily trigger your endorphins by flashing colours at your face. But if your willing to dig around and spend a few pennies you can find some really challenging and entertaining puzzle games, and Hitman GO is probably one of the first ones you should try.

Year in Depression Treatment

Friday, 17 February 2017

Last February after years of resisting going back into treatment for depression I finally decided that continuing to suffer due to stubbornness was no longer an option. So now a year later even though my mental health is definitely not perfect there is a noticeable improvement. So here are some thoughts a year later, on depression and seeking help.

Podcasticopia #3: You Must Remember This

Wednesday, 15 February 2017

As you may or may not have noticed it has been quite a few weeks since my last "weekly" podcast recommendation, so for now this series is just going to be whenever the mood strikes me to write about a new podcast that's taking over my ears. This time I can heartily recommend, "You Must Remember This", a podcast about all the secrets, affairs and politics surrounding the first century of a completely new form of media, Film.

My 5 Pop Culture Comforts

Sometimes there are moments in my life where I'm too tired, stressed out, sad or lazy to do anything of value. These moments are hopefully few and far between, but when they do come its nice to have a few things you can watch/read/play that bring you into a really comfy place. A few months ago the NPR Pop Culture Happy Hour podcast did a segment on pop culture comfort food, this made me think what are the things I keep going back to when I need a little pick me up? So here is just 5 of the things that make me feel relaxed, comfortable and happy. In no particular order. ;)

Fun With Cliches in Teachers

Tuesday, 7 February 2017

SOURCE: TV Land

Teachers is one of the latest line of irreverent female lead television comedies coming out, and although somewhat unknown - and confusing given there is a British sitcom of the same name - this little gem is a show I could easily see getting a following of hardcore fans. Originally a web-series created by comedy group The Katydids, the transition to a longer television format can be noticed in some of the flaky b-plots in this first season but give the impression of a show growing into something fantastic.
