What I've been playing - Sept 2016

Friday, 30 September 2016

This month has been dominated by shooty gunmen for me. I was planning on playing some Dragon Quest 9 this month, but that ended up being put on the back burner for now. Not for any particular reason, that just seems to happen when you fall into a deep video game addiction, you buy games and never end up playing them. Another game that isn't in this post but I have also been playing is Overwatch. I decided to leave it out because I really cant see myself putting it down any time soon and I really don't want to write a reason every month for why I'm still playing it. Just trust me it's really, REALLY good. So without any further ado these are the games I've been playing this month.

BATTLEFIELD 1 BETA

Source: EA / DICE

At the start of the month DICE announced that the Battlefield 1 open beta was going to begin and I couldn't have been happier. I've been a long time fan of the series ever since it started back in 2002, back then the game was super simplified but still had the same core concept as this latest iteration. That concept is team combat on a large scale, and since the map playable in the beta is the largest in the series so far, it seemed like an apt return to form. There are definitely some balance issues and a couple of bugs, but nothing I can't see being fixed before the game comes out in October.

METAL GEAR SOLID V: THE PHANTOM PAIN

Source: Konami

Metal Gear Solid is another series that I have played since the very first game, but when this iteration was coming close to release I just couldn't get excited for it. Nevertheless I picked it up the day it came out, and I got addicted. Even though the story was incomprehensible and some of the characters were given somewhat questionable attire, the pure game-play and moment to moment action was so good that I was hooked. But I ended up getting burnt out just over half way through the game, I was doing so many side missions that I could easily put in 40 hours without really progressing the plot. So I've decided to throw myself back into the dusty world of MGSV, and I got hooked all over again. It's been just over a year since the game came out, and I can safely say that the most fun I've had this console generation so far was with MSGV. I'm sure I'll write more about my experiences reintroducing myself to Snake and his assortment of chums in the future.

Well that's it for another month. Next month is chock full of brand new game releases like; Mafia 3, Titanfall 2, Dragonball Xenoverse 2, Gears of War 4, Civilization VI and of course Battlefield 1. Hopefully I should be able to pick up one of the new releases but we will just have to see how far my stubbornly nonelastic wallet stretches.

What have you guys been playing this month?
Have you gone back to play a game you just couldn't quite finish the first time?

THANKS FOR READING
